Being a math major I found the most interesting online activity to be the Math Playground out of the list of online activities. It allows children to practice word problems, logic puzzles, and even view math videos. Math games are also on this website which keeps kids interested. Its a very good activity for children to work on if they are completed a test or project earlier than other students.

I liked going over the Google Calendar Application today in class. I found it very interesting. After inserting a few fabricated items to use on the calendar I added it to my website for my classroom that we created last week. A few days later I received an email from google calendars notifying me that I had an assignment due. I wasn't aware the application reminded the person when certain things were due. I'm not sure I am a big fan of webquests. Yes they are good for students to look for information on the web, but it can get the students very off task; and quickly. I do however view webquests as educational tools if used effectively. The presentations for today were also very informative. Very good presentations!

Presentations today were good and it was interesting to learn how to create our own websites. Learning to create the websites on the internet can be useful in the classroom. It serves as an excellent way of communcation and it lets both students and teachers know important information that is going on within the class.

October 12, 2009

Again since this class was online, it was easier to complete it on my own time. However, it would have been nice to actually see how to convert the newsletter and flyer into a PDF. I had a lot of trouble and still did not figure it out. After downloading the converter it still didn't work. Seeing it done probably would have helped. The actual information for this class was relatively easy to understand. I like having classes online and we should have more like this in the future.

Today's class was very interesting. I have a little knowledge when it comes to creating a newsletter. In previous classes throughout school I have made brochures using Word and WordArt. I'm glad you gave us the website of pictures that can be used for educational purposes. Although it didn't help me personally because I am pursuing to be a teacher in mathematics, I really liked the online resource of readwritethink website. Knowing about this website will be extremely helpful in my future. Since the website did not have information which was useful to me, I conducted a search and found a helpful site with similar information. I really thought today's class was productive.

I liked having an online class, it allows you to have the ability to advance at your own pace. It's also easier to schedule a time when you can sit down and complete the information all at once. Not having to be at school at a certain time helps scheduling other events in a person's daily schedule.

Class was interesting today. Web 2.0 is something I've heard of before but wasn't entirely sure what exactly it referred to. After today's class I know what it represents. The presentations for web 2.0 is a good idea because it gives everyone the chance to know which each website does. Even though this was new information, what I found the most interesting and useful was googledocs. I never even heard of google docs before. I'm glad we were taught how to use this tool, it will make things alot easier when dealing with group activities.

National Educational Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for Teachers

Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

The whole reason children go to school is to learn, so why would teachers feel it is unimportant to need to facilitate and inspire students. When students find something interesting they usually pursue with that task. It’s important for teachers to be creative when it comes to learning so students want to learn. From my own experience, when I want to learn about something I take the time to listen and pay attention. I have found that I understand the information better and remember it easily. Getting children to want to learn is sometimes difficult, but I feel it’s essential.

Class was a great introduction to what information will be discussed throughout the semester. Going around the class and having everyone introduce who they were and what they were going to school for was a good idea. It helped let people know who else is studying in the same area of majors. The group projects were a good idea to help get people talking to each other right from the beginning. I think this is a good idea because it helps people become comfortable with each other and expressing ideas with one another, especially if it is going to be a reoccurring task of working in groups.
